Full transformation of a dated dresser into a fab Boho Chic piece of furniture art. Using paint and IOD stamps and transfers. Easier than you think. Watch and I will show you how.
I happened to go to my local furniture charity shop a few weeks ago. And they had what they call their free Friday. I was already buying a piece of furniture a gorgeous Ercol dresser which I will be uploading soon. The woman who was in charge asked if we wanted this sideboard and Marty and I couldn’t believe our luck as it was free.
On closer inspection when we got it home we found it was a really well made heavy piece of furniture. It had a few issues with the surface lots of chips and really just needed a good cleaning and a more modern look.
I’m was aiming with this piece for a really layered farmhouse chippy paint look. And In this video you see me apply multiple layers with a pallet knife and brushes. I used colors that I knew would work later on with my choice of floral transfer.
To finish this and give it a really summery happy boho finish I used to the IOD transfer “wander”. You can see me apply this and I used this transfer by cutting lots of cut-out sections and made an almost floral diagonal design running up the front of the piece like a garland adding each flower as I went.
I kept the top and sides the deep Atlantic Valspar furniture paint color. And painted the inside with the same deep Atlantic and a plum French chic furniture paint. The edges were lightly sanded and distressed with fine-grit sandpaper.
The piece had some stamps added to the inside of the drawers ( I used IoD peony) and it was sealed all over generously with clear Rustoleum wax.
So here’s what I used
Valspar Deep Atlantic furniture paint
Plum French chic chalk paint
Rustoleum antique white
Rustoleum green chalky finish furniture paint
Acrylic paint ( applied only after the base had 2 X coats)
Fine grit sandpaper
IOD transfer ( wander )
IOD stamps ( peonies )
Chalk paint blending brush
Cheap chip brushes
Water in a spray bottle
